Youth Genre Effecting Globally

Since the 1980s, a lot of movies which associated with car racing continually were emerged from Hollywood, and I would say that this kind of Hollywood movies can be stood for one special effect show of electronics fantasy. The Fast and Furious series, as expected that providing the most impressive and enjoyable perspectives of visual and auditory to audience, especially in young generation. In regarding to the soundtrack from Fast and Furious, as the representative of youth genre of action, we can find out that Hip Hop played a dominating role during this series, in Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo Drift, when hip hop genre passed into movie, always presenting two “spectacle” to audience one is about speed another is body that influencing the thematic youth culture, attitude and global national identity.

In Tokyo Drift, as the story-line mainly centered on some crazy and illegal activities happened on some rebel teenagers,  at this point,  the hip hop which originated from street culture of black, could be well integrated into movie itself. From the speed spectacle aspect, I think that Hip Hop genre was relatively as free, strong, and fast rhythm to emphasized on “speed spectacle”  of car racing on street culture. Here the music as the coordinating tool to fit in visual phenomenon. It contributed to the flowing of movie, like each time before car racing, the Hip Hop soundtrack plays an important role that impacting on the atmosphere, making it more thrilling, nervous and stimulated and then as one significant factor that pushing forward the rhythm of movie and strengthen the sense of speed. In addition, my opinion is that the Hip Hop music was arranged on these sequences could draw young generation attention even expecting  the curious psychology. During this movie, the high speed movement audio-visual created a sense of space and actual sense of speed. Combing with the roar of motor, and frictional sound between tires,  constructing as the dominating Hip Hop music style atmosphere which only belongs to Youth culture. Fast, not only presenting on the Hip Hop genre, but also reflecting the youth battle which the one first to reach the finish line for the purpose of driving speed skills and contestant attitude. During the contest, the car chasing, car body crash, and driving skills scene always  presented to audience on physical and mental shock. The Hip Hop music advanced the speed spectacle not only satisfied audience visual factors, even during the race focus on racers’ facial expressions which more likely tending to characterization, their attitude.

As I know that sometimes Hip Hop was more about freestyle, personal emotion involved the song,  without the attitude for Hip hop, that is an half-baled Hip Hop music. For instance, in this movie, Shaw was one USA bad boy that had to move to Tokyo for studying due to a  lot of trouble he made in US, through the car racing, he found himself finally.  The theme song named “Tokyo Drift” by Teriyaki Boyz which a hybrid language Hip Hop of English and Japanese repeatedly show during car racing scene. Though Adding the Hip Hop element inside it is like giving the new meaning of car racing, which is no longer a single competition about win or not, but the attitudes for life, brotherhood and  love in this move. In a word, I would say that in terms of narrative and character setting, the Hip Hop genre stood for the protagonists attitude which as unconventional ways that gradually transferring. Such as, Shaw, the white young and rebel guy rather than acting some traditional heroes that playing a protective role of social security. Getting through his perspective of justice to against Yakuzha( Japanese gangsters), in deeper side it relatively put the surface phenomenon of speed spectacle to another social culture issue, given the social text to music itself. I would conclude that “to overcome violence with violence”, one teenage almost abandoned by society, taking his responsibility  to save his friends in crisis, which instead he still needs the assistance from the Yakuzha side, most of his close friends were involved in that society. So Shaw the protagonist was shaped as that kind of having affection and faith which never disappointed to himself. This is youth culture, kind of reflecting to Hip Hop culture, potentially influencing the “Fast” and “Furious” these two terms.

Apart from the speed spectacle, I would say that the body spectacle was more likely as basing on audience have the right of choose and control, their individual needs and desires to satisfy psychological and behavioral needs. Normally Hip Hop music included some sensitive lyrics and rhythm like this “Tokyo Drift” song,  when the soundtrack was played on the scene that first time Shaw went to the underground street car contest, girls’ sexy body, the way how the camera shoot focus on their body movement, as the music assisted that presentation of the female body to satisfy male audience that  treating women as physical objects and psychological desires by accepting the initiative of Hip Hop. Women dressed in tight –fitting clothes and curved body fully expressed the femininity and tended to the necessary element of Youth culture.

Finally, since the story-line happened in Tokyo, the Hip Hop song “Tokyo Drift: also applied Japanese element inside and male , female voice together. Like the Shaw as the central that different ethnic on screen, in my opinion, it is not surprising that the movie in the meanwhile integrated  Hip Hop feature that having  a more cognitive attitude for different racial idea, and the white people- centered  concept was gradually changing . it is a new Hollywood consuming style that influenced by Hip Hop so that  attracted more young generation to this market.  “It should be indicated that the de-centering process of globalization makes it untenable to single out the symbolic center that belongs to a particular country. “(Koichi, 2002)

In the end, I would say the Hip Hop music already deeply signified the most remarkable thing for Fast and Furious Serious, more importantly, In the Tokyo Drift, Hip Hop invariably stands for huge passion on youth culture, their attitude to life, and global national awareness. So this genre become one crucial symbol to lead the young Fast and Furious development.

Addicted To You, Online Game

As the prosperity and industrialization development of online game, the negative effects of online game appear as well. A lot of players, especially young people have addicted to online games that can not extricate themselves as suffering from “Internet addiction” that ignited a series of social problems. facing some of tragic stories already existed on our daily life, one 21 year old Shawn Woolley killed himself in 2002 after prolonged stints playing EverQuest for 12 hours a day. In 2004, Zhang Xiaoyi threw himself out of a 24th floor window after 36 hours playing World of Warcraft. And the Daily Mail exploded last year with the tales of Leo Barbero, a 17 year old whose muscles had atrophied. I think that everyone should take their reasonability that to prevent more tragic stories surrounding us. Today I will discuss that why people practically in teenagers were addicted to online videogame.

Firstly, always People have cherished novelty boundless curiosity, and there is no doubt that online games for us to create a new world different from the real situation. As a brilliant videogame, One attractive point is that to let the players keep up the quest to arouse desire in terms of intelligence, skill and coordination and flexibility and other opponents were training with the brain. And that’s exactly satisfied most of online players for online game.
What’s more, Strong interaction is an important feature of online games. In the online game, players are no longer faced with the virtual figures under computer control, but flesh and real character, the wisdom of the game with real partners. In addiction, the way in communication online game mostly depend on the exchange of anonymity online games. That makes online games between players closer to the content of communication, and less affected by other factors.
Another point is new story-line modern, it is relatively indicated that online games generally do not have constant results in the prior design which can generally be through the system constantly adding new tasks and the story, players are able to feel the game is not static, it is with the players grow and grow, from time to time will be able to find some new elements.

Beautifully realistic picture, fantasy characters, fine-sounding music, and cooperation with friends together. All the feature are huge temptation for people to try, especially for teenagers who do not have much the ability of self control. Like me in order to win more match and improve my rate, spending hours and hours on online 2K basketball.:( Adequate timing on online game is a good way for personal reason, however, how much time should we spend on this or how can we call “addicted to online game”? maybe we should leave this question to ask yourself. It is hard to define that above how much time people spend on online game called addictive. Just saying to it by yourself, not addicted to you but keen to you.”

Killing is not the only way

Nowadays, a lot of research pointed out that some of videogame like grand theft auto series which could be called violence game might effect the perspective of world value from teenagers, even became murder and killed people like in a videogame. The problem is that Playing violent video games in real life will become very violent no matter whoever? I think the answer is yes! As I know, a eight-year-old boy child  killed a woman because  he played play “Grand Theft Auto”, then confuses reality and fantasy game scene. I would like to say it have to draw people attention,  “killing is the only way that make teenagers get in love with videogame and found themself real in violent ?”

Thanks to the videogame is interactive, unlike television, animated violence, the biggest difference is that it is interactive, there is the main difference of the object, the game players are assumed body, including the environment, roles,including the often acts violence object. Not only the player takes the most responsibility to execute the violent, but also every killing became legal in player’s mind.

However, I think that the violent can be divided into two type, one is that violent non-player character for gamers, this kind of violent is the most common in RPG,SLG game. It is like  have to kill the people or monster so that pass the mission according to the game story- line. Another one is that players for players violence.  This one is like active violence, violence is the will of the player to achieve the purpose of the active players exercised. Like in GTA, Even if the initiative did not need too much violence murder, it would lead to hitting from the game in real life, what a bad influence.

Anyway, maybe it is time that paying more attention on violent videogame for teenagers. Telling them “killing is not the only way to figure out the problem.” otherwise it may make players character is affected, this will be a greater degree of influence that will change the way they deal with the problem, even violent. Nobody won’t see the  tragic consequence happen.


Relationship between Videogame and Ethnicity

Racial discrimination has been the hottest topic in Western society on the topic of race has never been broken, not only in reality, but also happened in videogame. Sometimes in character setting this section programmers might releate to the human being progressive history, ethnic characteristics and other thinngs to build up the character. like in street fighter, as a game which associated with numerous players had a wonderful childhood (including me), however, as the fighters came from various parts of the world, like the jungle orcs from Brazil Blanca (Blanka), Fighting yoga guru from India Dahl tin (Dhasim)  and Jamaican black Dinger (DeeJay), there is implying that a rich set vilify image in fighters setting. not only from their appearance, (look releatively different from normal fighters like ken, ryu), but also the skills, Blanka who is a monster can release eletricty, Dhasim who can extend his hand and leg. This will inevitably be misleading that people treat different race with “surprise” attitude though just a game. There will be prejudiced opinion on those teenagers who do not know the reason behind the game.

Another game may exist some racist problem like the most famous series names GTA, in the early period, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City already disseminated information irrationally, in  this game, players would receive some missions like ” kill Indians” command, as well as the expulsion of Cubans and Haitians. There is no doubt that showing strong ethnic problem. and this is why that Indian-Americans gathered to protest the collective game makers’ door. Like in the lectre, we saw the Resident Evil 5 trailer, no matter from a game extend to reality, or from substantial world to a videogame,  black people were killed looks like a big tragedy that like a certain event. Sometimes the reason why people like playing videogames can release the stress  unfair from real life, and by the game programmers can build up some contexts that totally differ for life. I think that there is no meaningful that repeating some problematic issues happened on videogame. SPG challenges substantial sports

Nowadays, as the field of videogames developing rapidly that I can not imagne, for me, as a big super sports fan. (especially soccer and basketball)  there is no doubt that being satisfied with the quality of SPG no matter the content, graphic,control and others. on the other side, those SPG do provide a platform for such fans like me to integrate athletics. Dreaming you are the only one who can control even being the star while you are using! What a fantastic moment.:)  However, the more expectation on videogames, the more disappointment on substantial sports.

Why should I say this, since I became a 2k sports fan as 4 years, I still confused that the identify of basketball players’ ability. It is well known that the player’s ability means everything. Usually we choose high ability player to shoot, steal, block or something because it is easy to achieve what the gamer want. And then ignoring the lower ability player all the time. Here’s the problem, this subtle thoughts will be entered the real world. people pay less attention on those players (maybe they have big potential or good future)   In such a bussiness world right now,especially in NBA market,  sometimes if the player’s value is not like what people expect, it is not that simple that how much extra time the player spent on training, praticing then become a famous one.  Anyway, games always can not represent the substanial world. The ability data on games just represent current situation not forever.( like the data update every new version)

On the other side, gamers like me are able to depend more on those superstar players. In the game, I can use those superstars finish most of difficult shoots,and with high shoot rate to win the match. But to be honestly, this is a big contrast to real NBA match right now. people began to judge those superstar, why they can miss such easy shoot that i could got 100% shoot rate on game. More and more bullies on those real players. No matter how real the game made to us. game is a game. We still can not compare those two together. Gaming VS Filming

I always realized that gaming and filming is a pair of good partner no matter their setting, producing, editing and promoting seem like using similar method. However, since I started to learn videogames course lase week plus finished FTVMS 101 last semester, there do still exist some basic principle difference between them. Here’s my one of roughly analysis.:)

In video games, usually gamers as a protagonist observe the game world in three-dimensional space. Although the gamers still might cannot change the whole development of story-line,( one of game called dead rising can be changed by gamers),  videogames are like giving the power to player to control the whole things. Unlike filming, the director is the only core for the movie, he decides the whole things to audience what they should see, hear in the scene excepting thinking. Gaming let the thinking jump to action. Gamers are able to get more freedom than being an audience in cinema.

Besides that, players can walk anywhere in the fictitious city, it means that game programmers have to design every detail of building, forest, and object, like the character design is the same reason.  This is a hardworking job because considering players side is much more important than others. In the three-dimensional space, gamers can be from any angle, around up and down and go observation of design, this means that the design of the game must satisfy both fun and detail requirements.


Like what I said above, “viewers” as a role to watch one movie by a director instead of joining inside the story-line together.( In film, some cinematography could be got such effect like that) But the main point is that the control is on director’s hand. Such as director can set up the scene luxuriously  where is the main one happened mostly, and ignoring others detail placing setting( usually audience focus on the characters) Maybe this is why plenty of goofs on movies. XD

Anyway, Gaming and filming are two different industries. People always got much complain about adopting into a movie by the game or into a game by a movie. Depending on different concert of making this product, actually it is not fair that judging which is better or worse.
